Beat the Heat

It’s scorching heat outside with temperature reaching 40 degree Celsius. This heat makes our body dehydrated, lethargic and fatigued. It’s very important to provide proper hydration to the body in summers to prevent muscle cramps and soreness. Skin and hair also lose their moisture and feel dry. Few simple tips will help you combat the heat and will help you to hydrate your body.

Drink more Water
Water is of utmost importance when it is severely hot outside. In summers we sweat a lot either due to heat or during excessive exercise. Drinking enough water should be the remedy for this. Whenever your body heats up from physical activity or the hot weather outside, your internal air conditioner turns on and you begin to sweat. Remember, now that your air conditioner is using its coolant (your sweat), it is important to refill the tank by drinking lots of water.

Replenish your Electrolytes
As, in summers the body loses fluid, it can also lose electrolytes. They are mineral in your body which maintains acid-base balance and prevent muscle cramps. Drinking coconut water, lemon water, buttermilk, lassi, Kokum sharbat, keri ka panna can be helpful in maintaining electrolyte balance.

Eat a good amount of Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables which are high in water content like cucumber, tomato, watermelon, muskmelon, oranges, grapes should be taken with meals. These fruits and vegetables contain 60-80% water in them and help your body in better digestion and are a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Exercise Daily
Regular physical activity is very important to maintain health and fitness. To prevent fluid loss due to excessive sweating, drink water before and during the workout. Keep taking small sips of water to prevent muscle cramps. Wear comfortable dry fit or cotton clothes. Try and plan your workout either in the early morning or late evenings.

Avoid Drinking too much of Alcohol / High Sugar Drinks and Caffeine
High sugar drink, caffeine and alcohol have a mild diuretic effect and can affect the fluid levels in the body. Try and avoid these drinks. If you tend to take these drinks sometimes, then either dilute it with water or make sure to eat food which contains more water in them to help your body maintain its state of hydration.

Be Hydrated and enjoy your Summer.
